$300 YOUNG VIRTUOSO PRIZE WINNER

Chris Koo is a sophomore at Chadwick International School in South Korea. He is an experienced timpanist and percussionist who loves orchestra and chamber activities and performs more than 10 times a year. He participated in the Young Artists Orchestra (YAO) at BU Tanglewood Institute (BUTI) with a scholarship and received excellent feedback from the professors. His dream is to be a timpanist in a world-class orchestra and perform at his best with great musicians. He is also very good as a soloist and has won many competitions, such as the Prima Volta Music Competition, the International Grande Music Competition, the New York International Music Competition, and the KIMEA Competition. He is also active in the wind ensemble, jazz band, and drama pit band at his school and shows leadership. He has played the drum set since he was 4 and has recitals twice a year. When asked about his secret to being good at music, he said that the most important thing is to listen to it a lot. He listens to and watches orchestral performances the most, but also loves jazz and pop. In his free time, he plays the piano and enjoys playing table tennis.
